Lead Frontend Engineer
Do you want to help shape a unified, user-friendly digital platform that enhances our freight operations across Europe and beyond? Are you looking for a role where you can contribute to building modern and scalable frontend experiences? If so, you could be the newest addition to our team as a Lead Frontend Engineer.
Be part of the movement - and play your part.
About the role
As a Lead Frontend Engineer at DFDS, you’ll join a passionate and collaborative team on an exciting journey to develop digital capabilities that enhance customer and user experiences. Together, we work to deliver applications with a strong focus on performance, reusability, and a cohesive end-user experience.
Our team operates with autonomy and embraces a start-up mindset. We foster a build-measure-learn approach and love sharing knowledge while experimenting with new tools and frameworks.
As our Lead Frontend Engineer, you will:
· Architect Scalable Frontend Solutions: Design and enforce frontend architecture patterns using React, Next.js, and modular design principles to ensure maintainability and performance at scale.
· Own Frontend Quality: Set and enforce coding standards across the team (naming conventions, SRP, reusability, state management, styling structure, and translation practices) in line with our internal.
· Mentor & Guide: Lead technical discussions, conduct strict code reviews, and coach frontend engineers on writing clean, reusable, and tested code with high attention to performance and structure.
· Champion Reusability: Craft reusable components and solutions by adhering to atomic design principles, enabling efficient code sharing across teams.
· Innovate and Optimize: Continuously improve our platform's performance while exploring new ideas, tools, and technologies.
· Drive Platform Consistency: Maintain and evolve the shared UI component system (using ShadCN UI and Tailwind) and guide design discussions to balance pixel-perfection with practical delivery.
· Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Coordinate closely with backend teams, product managers, UX designers, and chapter leads to ensure architecture decisions align with business needs and tech vision.
· Push CI/CD Standards: Take ownership of the frontend pipeline by integrating robust workflows with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps to support reliable, testable deployments.
About you
We think the strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity. Contrasting opinions, varied skills and strong characters bring out the best in us all. With this in mind we are looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative and agile environment.
To succeed in this role, you should:

· Be familiar with fetching and managing data from CMS platforms or REST/GraphQL APIs.
· Be comfortable working with tools like Tailwind CSS for styling, expanding our own internally built shared UI system.
· Have an understanding of CI/CD workflows with tools like GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
· Be passionate about writing clean, reusable, and scalable code.
· Have experience with testing frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress (a plus).
Your mindset matters to us. We want you to:
· Ability to set the direction for the frontend tech stack, enforce guidelines, and ensure team alignment.
· Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to align on vision and details.
· See coding as a creative process and take pride in delivering intuitive solutions.
· Feel confident presenting your work during sprint reviews and team discussions.
· Willingness to push back on unclear or inefficient designs and drive pragmatic technical decisions.
· Maintain high standards for development and user experience.
· Enjoy contributing to a team that values openness, trust, and continuous learning.
